How to do the Plate Front Raise

  1. Stand with feet apart, holding a plate by your thighs.
  2. Keep your torso upright, elbows slightly bent, and ready to move.
  3. Raise the plate forward until your arms are parallel to the floor.
  4. Lower the plate slowly back down to the starting position.
  5. Avoid shrugging your shoulders during this controlled movement.
Full technique — 5 steps
  1. Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and hold a plate at its sides in front of your thighs.
  2. Keep your torso upright, shoulders down, and elbows slightly bent before starting the raise.
  3. Raise the plate straight in front of your body until it reaches about shoulder height.
  4. Stop when your arms are roughly parallel to the floor without leaning back or shrugging.
  5. Lower the plate along the same path until it returns in front of your thighs.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning back to start reps
  • Shrugging through the raise
  • Swinging the plate upward
  • Lifting far above shoulder height

  • Raise to shoulder height

  • Slight elbow bend
  • No torso swing
