A suspension trainer pulling exercise targeting the lats, upper back, and biceps. Useful for building bodyweight pulling strength when full pull-ups are not yet available.

How to do the Suspension Trainer Lat Pull

  1. Adjust the trainer so handles are high, facing the anchor point.
  2. Grip the handles, straighten your arms, and lean back into a straight line.
  3. Pull your body upward by driving your elbows down from overhead toward your sides.
  4. Slowly return to the starting position, keeping your body stable.
Full technique — 7 steps
  1. Anchor the suspension trainer overhead and set the handles high enough for a leaning pull.
  2. Stand facing the anchor and grip the handles with arms straight overhead.
  3. Walk your feet forward and lean back until your body forms a straight line.
  4. Set your ribs down and keep your hips extended so your torso stays rigid.
  5. Pull your body upward by driving your elbows down from overhead toward your sides.
  6. Finish when your hands reach beside your upper chest with your elbows close to your ribs and below shoulder height.
  7. Lower back to the start by straightening your arms overhead without losing body alignment.

Common mistakes

  • Turning it into a row
  • Bending the hips mid-rep
  • Shrugging shoulders toward ears
  • Stopping short of overhead reach

  • Start from full overhead reach
  • Drive elbows toward ribs
  • Keep hips from sagging
  • Lean back to scale
