How to do the Sumo Kettlebell Deadlift

  1. Stand with your feet wider than your shoulders, toes slightly turned out.
  2. Bend at your hips and knees to grip the kettlebell handle.
  3. Push through your feet and stand up, keeping your back straight.
  4. Lower the kettlebell back down, bending your hips and knees.
  5. Avoid rounding your lower back as you bend to protect it.
Full technique — 7 steps
  1. Stand with feet wider than shoulder width and toes turned slightly out around the kettlebell.
  2. Position the kettlebell centered between your feet over the middle of your stance.
  3. Push your hips back, bend your knees, and reach down with both hands on the handle.
  4. Set your spine neutral and pull your shoulders down before lifting.
  5. Push your knees out and drive through your feet, extending your hips and knees together.
  6. Stand tall with the kettlebell hanging under your hips without leaning back at the top.
  7. Lower the kettlebell by sitting the hips back and bending the knees until it returns to the floor.
