How to do the Resistance Band Chest Press

  1. Anchor the band behind you and hold a handle in each hand.
  2. Step forward until the band feels slightly tight and ready to work.
  3. Press your hands forward until your arms are straight, feeling the resistance.
  4. Slowly return to the starting position, controlling the band's pull.
  5. Repeat this movement for a complete set of repetitions.
Full technique — 7 steps
  1. Anchor the band behind you at chest height and take one handle in each hand.
  2. Step forward into a split or staggered stance until the band has light starting tension.
  3. Bring your hands to chest level with elbows bent and slightly below shoulder height.
  4. Set your ribs down and keep your shoulders pulled back instead of shrugging forward.
  5. Press your hands straight forward until your arms are extended in front of your chest.
  6. Bring your hands slightly inward at the finish without letting your shoulders roll forward.
  7. Return under tension until your hands come back beside your chest and repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Anchor set too high
  • Elbows flaring level with shoulders
  • Shoulders shrugging during press
  • Leaning bodyweight into the band
  • Letting band snap back
