Standing Low Cable Crossover

A standing cable fly variation targeting the upper and mid chest. Useful for lifters wanting chest isolation through a low-to-high pressing arc.

How to do the Standing Low Cable Crossover

  1. Adjust the cables to the lowest setting and grab a handle in each hand.
  2. Stand centered between the pulleys, stepping one foot forward into a split stance.
  3. Start with your arms slightly out, palms up, keeping a slight bend in your elbows.
  4. Sweep both handles upward and inward, meeting your hands at upper chest height.
  5. Slowly return to the starting position, feeling a stretch in your chest.
Full technique — 7 steps
  1. Set both cable pulleys to the lowest position and attach single handles.
  2. Stand between the pulleys, grab the handles, and step forward into a split stance.
  3. Start with arms slightly out to your sides, palms facing up or inward, and a slight bend in your elbows.
  4. Keep your shoulders down and back, and the bend in your elbows fixed as the cables pull backward.
  5. Sweep both handles upward and inward in a wide arc until your hands meet around upper chest height.
  6. Squeeze your chest at the end range without turning the movement into a press.
  7. Return along the same arc until you feel a full chest stretch without losing torso position.

Common mistakes

  • Pressing the handles forward
  • Straightening or bending elbows excessively
  • Letting shoulders roll forward
  • Hands finishing too low
  • Using torso swing for momentum
